Having a butterfly themed birthday party? These cute DIY butterfly party favors for kids are sure to be a hit. They are so simple to make, you can even have the kids make their own during the party if you like.
My youngest daughter helped me make these butterfly theme party favors as a class treat at the end of the school year. After we made the butterfly bodies out of wooden clothespins, we filled baggies with S’mores Trail Mix and used that for the butterfly wings. The kids all really seemed to love them. Keep reading to learn how to make these cute favors.

Materials needed for these DIY Butterfly Party Favors for Kids
Natural Wood Clothespins – 100 piecesChevron Background Stamp
5mm Googly Eyes, 1000 pieces

For these kids butterfly party favors, you will also need the following which you probably already have around the house:
- Ink Pad in color of choice
- Hot Glue Gun or Mini Glue Dots
- White Pipe Cleaners
- Wire Cutter
- Snack Size Zip-loc Bags (or any brand with a zip close top)

You want to start by stamping a design on one side of your wooden clothespin. I found it easiest to turn the stamp upside down and then press the clothespin into the stamp.
I used a chevron background stamp, because that was what I had on hand, but there are lots of background stamps that would work well to give interest and dimension to the butterfly body. Here are a few background stamp designs that would look super cute for these butterfly theme party favors.

After you have finished your stamping, use hot glue to affix the eyes to the top of the clothespin. If children are helping to assemble these, then glue dots are a safer alternative to the glue gun. Or if you can find them, you could use self-adhesive googly eyes.
Cut the pipe cleaner into 5.5 inch lengths, using the wire cutters. Fold each piece in half and then coil the ends to look like a butterfly’s antenna. Use hot glue or glue dots to adhere the antennae to the back of the clothespin at the top.
Fill the snack bags with whatever you would like – Goldfish Crackers, small candies, etc. I decided to make some S’more Trail Mix to include in the snack bags. I used the colored mini marshmallows to add a bit of color to the butterfly wings.
I think my little helper was trying to hide the fact that she was sneaking some of the trail mix as she stirred! The chipmunk cheeks were a dead giveaway 🙂
S’more Trail Mix Recipe
- 1 small box Honey Grahams cereal
- 1 bag milk chocolate chips
- 1 bag mini marshmallows
Mix all the ingredients together.
Finishing the kids butterfly party favors
You will want to fill the snack bags about 3/4 full. You need some room to be able to pin the butterfly in the middle of the snack bag. Seal the bags, getting as much air out as possible. Separate the trail mix evenly on both sides of the bag, leaving a space down the middle for the butterfly clothespin. Fold the zipper closure to the back and then slide on the butterfly clothespin. And that’s it! Quick and easy favors that the kids will love.
